How's that for a rosey conclusion to your 1018 issues? Not without complications, but without complications upon contemplation. That printer only supports 2MB of internal RAM - and the driver Winduds is trying to cram into its maw may be too much for it to handle right there - and there is no expansion from what I can tell.Įven a 7 year old Lexmark e310 will get you to PS Level 2, generic carts, and a 32MB stick from a Macintosh 601 - 603 series printer will give you 34MB of RAM (I found mine at Goodwill with 200 prints, PROBABLY because someone junked it trying to get it to print with 2MB of RAM - and all I ever got from it was PS errors until I crammed that DIMM in there - and end of troubles!

it's a stated "NON-Mac Printer" (despite your success) - and it doesn't even know what Windows 7 is!! [ Let alone 64bit! seems there ALWAYS is) an OfficeMax / OfficeDept always seem to be dumping the low end of an HP that has only 1 paper tray and USB, but is otherwise the same as the 2 tray Duplex version, and is as good - without the extras you don't need. If I just need one for non-postscript (which is typical of everyone - just use Acrobat) - the little Bro 1440 is great, and some of those cheap Samsungs might even do the job (and there may be. and if that printer gives me ANY trouble in the near future? It's going to be set on fire (despite less than 3000 prints) and I'm going to get the BrotherHL-5370DW or similar printer. But was knocked down to $99 at Circus City, had a $100 REBATE, and for $11 I added 512MB of RAM to the 32MB built in, and for under $17, got a Postscript Level 3, 1200x1200 (+ ResEnhancement that is supposed to be more like 2400) with half a gig of RAM and prints 33ppm. I wanted the Network/Duplex option, but that was $400.

If not that, then a used (or unused) Brother 1440 for $20, that will work, and be bullet proof, has inexpensive parts (drum, etc., plus uses generics like a charm) ? It has wireless, duplex printing, Postscript Level 3, and is just $179? why wouldn't you just move along, get a Brother HL-5370DW (duplex/wireless/ethernet network). How much is the cure worth to you? (this is a serious question) - and that price could go as high asĪ high quality axe so you could use it each late fall to also chop wood. I’m just missing something and said something is what is preventing my wife’s laptop from printing to the 1018 via wireless when its connected to the base station. My wife doesn’t have a problem printing to it via USB.

My Mac Pro doesn’t have a problem printing to it via Airport. We could easily replace this printer with another cheap low-end B&W laser printer that has ethernet and/or wireless but I’d rather not do so. To say I’ve become very frustrated with the situation is an understatement. changing the port #, entering the IP address of the BAse Station directly into a new TCP/IP port, etc. There are lots of instructions on the web with a slew of tips, i.e. Yet, nothing I’ve tried has allowed my wife’s laptop to actually print to the printer when it is connected to the Airport Extreme via USB.

The printer works fine on my wife’s machine when directly connected via USB. I know the printer works and is fine on the Airport Extreme since my Mac Pro prints to it easily. It sends the data to the queue and then it looks like it actually got sent to the printer but the printer doesn’t spit anything out. The printer doesn’t actually print the page. Windows sends the test page to the queue, it shows up and then vanishes. Upon running the Bonjour Printer Utility, it finds the printer easily and adds it to the Devices and Printers pane of the Windows Control Panel.

installing Airport Software and then installing the Bonjour Printer Software. I followed Apple’s instructions for configuring Windows to print to it as a bonjour printer, i.e.

However, my wife’s HP Laptop running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit cannot print to the laserjet 1018. I just used the Laserjet 1022 driver and it works without a hiccup. So far, My Mac Pro prints to it as a bonjour printer without any problems, despite not having an actual printer driver for it. I decided to throw it onto our family network by connecting it to the USB port on our Airport Extreme Base Station (dual band 802.11n). It’s a very small personal laser printer that is Windows only.
